Thanks For Helping to Connect the Puyallup Riverwalk Trail!

The Puyallup Riverwalk Trail is a 8-mile paved non-motorized path on the south side of the river, just north of downtown. There is a gap in the trail between Veteran's Park and the State Route 512 overpass. Phase 5 of the trail's development, seeks to fill this and connect the two sections of the trail together. As much of the project as possible will be separated from the roadway.

The complexities of this project entails necessitates breaking it into two phases — 5A & 5B. ​​

​Phase 5A will extend the existing trail from Veteran's Park east and under the Milwaukee Avenue bridge to join with the east side of 5th Street NE. It will then head south as a shared use path separated from the road and then head east along the north side of 2nd Avenue NE. It will exit the roadway under the SR 512 overpass and join the eastern segment of the Riverwalk Trail.​​​​​ The City applied for grants to construct Phase 5A.

Phase 5B, a separate, later phase of the trail's development will construct a soft surface trail along the river roughly from 7th Avenue (off of 5th Street NE). This segment will also connect to the eastern Riverwalk Trail under the SR 512 overpass.

MORE CONNECTIONS!

In the future, as part of yet another project, the Riverwalk Trail will connect to the Foothills National Recreation Trail near Van Lierop Park. Also, the spuyaləpabš Trail (formerly the Tacoma to Puyallup Trail) will also connect to the Riverwalk Trail.
