PIPELINE TRAIL
Phase 2:
South Hill

The Pipeline Trail is a crucial trail in our regional network. It stretches from Tacoma into unincorporated Pierce County and helps link our urban core with rural areas. Tacoma's segment  connects the downtown through the Eastside neighborhood to the city limits. In 2025, Pierce County opened its first phase in the Summit-Waller area to Orangegate Park. ForeverGreen Trails was a crucial partner in that project's development.

Phase 2 of the County's project is in the South Hill community, south of Puyallup's city limits. Phase 3 will connect the earlier phases with construction scheduled to start in 2030. Phase 2 begins at Fruitland Avenue E and runs southeast to 122nd Street E. An existing shared use path connects through the County's Sewer and Traffic OPerations (STOP) facility to 126th Street E. From there a small on-street path will be added on 90th Avenue E. to connect to the popular Nathan Chapman Trail. This project will connect three schools and three parks with a safe and inviting active recreation and mobility space for all ages and abilities!

ForeverGreen Trails was instrumental in helping the County get a $1.5M award for this project in 2025. We are pleased to say that the project is in design and the County expects to break ground in late 2026.

Phase 2 of the Pipeline Trail is also the start of a South Hill Community Trail Network, envisioned in the County's Regional Trail Plan. This network will expand mobility (and recreation) options in a fast-growing part of Pierce County.

The Pipeline Trail will eventually connect to the Foothills National Recreation Trail. Along with other regional trails, it will provide mobility throughout Pierce County and connections to neighboring counties.

Pipeline Regional Context

ForeverGreen Trails is committed to helping the County complete the Pipeline Trail. We are assisting with grant writing for Phase 3 of the project in 2026 and look forward to future phases to connect to the Foothills Trail.
