PIPELINE TRAIL
Phase 2:
South Hill

The Pipeline Trail is a crucial trail in our regional network. It stretches from Tacoma into Pierce County and helps link our urban core with rural areas. Tacoma's segment  connects the downtown through the Eastside neighborhood to the city limits. In 2025, Pierce County opened its first phase in the Summit-Waller area to Orangegate Park. ForeverGreen Trails was a crucial partner in that project's development.

Phase 2 of the County's project is in the South Hill community, south of Puyallup's city limits. Later, Phase 3 will be constructed to connect the earlier phases. Stay tuned for more information.

Phase 2 begins at Fruitland Avenue East and runs SE to 122nd Avenue. An existing shared use path on that street connects to and through the County's Sewer and Traffic OPerations (STOP) facility. From there a small on-street path will be added on 90th Avenue E. to connect to the popular Nathan Chapman Trail. This phase of the trail will connect three schools and three parks with a safe and inviting active recreation and mobility space for all ages and abilities.

ForeverGreen Trails was instrumental in helping the County get a $1.5M award for this project in 2025. We are pleased to say that the project is currently being designed and the County expect to break ground on it later in 2026. Please make sure you are signed up for our newsletter below so you don't miss any announcements about the event.

Besides being part of a long-distance facility, this phase of the Pipeline Trail is the start of a South Hill Community Trail Network, envisioned in the County's Regional Trail Plan. This network will help provide mobility (and recreation) options in a fast-growing part of the unincorporated area:

The Pipeline Trail will eventually connect to the Foothills National Recreation Trail. Along with other regional trails, it will provide mobility throughout Pierce County and provide connections to neighboring counties.

Pipeline Regional Context

ForeverGreen Trails is committed to helping the County complete the Pipeline Trail. We are assisting with grant writing for Phase 3 of the project in 2026 and look forward to future phases to connect to the Foothills Trail.
